Selecting a Project

Utopia Volunteers has dozens of unique projects across the world. The variety may make selecting a project seem overwhelming, but rest assured that we will help you choose one that is best fit for your unique strengths and talents. We want the community you serve to benefit as much as possible from the time you’re volunteering with UV so it’s important the project chosen will maximize your impact.

Before deciding a specific project, here are some things to keep in mind.

What are your skills or natural abilities? Are you great with children, computers, or fixing things? Are you trained in the medical field or in finance? Do you have a green thumb? Have you coached athletics or taught English before? Do you have a hobby you hope to share? Let us know what you think and we’ll find a program perfect for you.

Where do you want to be? Would you like to volunteer in an urban area in Guatemala or a rural setting in central Uganda? Does the idea of volunteering in hot, humid conditions sound unappealing, or would you enjoy being in the Costa Rican rain forest? Is there a location you’ve always wanted to explore but never had the chance? If you’re open to going wherever you’re needed, that’s great, too!

How long can you volunteer? We have projects suitable for both short- and long-term volunteers but some benefit more from the commitment and trust established in a long-term placement. Whether you can volunteer for one week or one month or more, there are projects needing your help.

We’ll have a head start on the selection process if you’ve thought about these topics before you talk with us. There is a project that needs someone just like you – contact us to help you decide.
